Compatibility comes first

A Fifth-Wheel Move Starts With the Right Match

A fifth wheel connects to a hitch inside the truck bed. Its pin-box configuration, weight, and clearance are important parts of the transport assessment.

Overall size is only part of the picture. Dustin also needs information about loaded weight, condition, equipment, and modifications that could affect compatibility.

Photos help identify the configuration, but they do not replace specifications or checks needed to confirm the move.

Look beyond the parking spot

Plan for Height, Turns & Site Placement

A fifth wheel needs a suitable approach as well as a suitable parking spot. Discussing both locations helps identify concerns before the truck arrives.

Overhead Clearance

Provide overall travel height, including rooftop equipment. Mention branches, covered entrances, and other overhead obstacles. Another RV’s access does not establish clearance for yours.

Turning Space

Send photos of tight corners, narrow lanes, gates, and areas affected by parked vehicles. Include the route from the entrance to the site.

Truck & Trailer Clearance

The truck bed, trailer overhang, pin box, and hitch must be reviewed together. Explain aftermarket equipment, grade changes, and unusual approaches.

Destination Placement

Share site dimensions, surface conditions, and preferred orientation. Consider entry-door access, slide-outs, utility locations, and campground rules.

Prepare Your Fifth Wheel for Pickup

Preparation is especially important when the RV has been used as a stationary living space. Follow manufacturer instructions and agree on who handles departure tasks.

  • Report Equipment Problems Early

Mention landing-gear or leveling-system problems, damaged tires, lighting faults, brake concerns, and structural issues before scheduling.

  • Secure the Living Space

Pack loose belongings, latch storage areas, and prepare appliances and furnishings according to the owner’s manual. Report cargo changes that affect loaded weight.

  • Prepare Exterior Equipment

Confirm slide-outs, awnings, and steps can be secured for travel. Discuss utility disconnection and clearing hoses, cables, skirting, decks, and campsite accessories.

  • Arrange Access & Assistance

Provide keys, gate information, authorization, and a contact person. Discuss any requested departure assistance beforehand.

Instructions differ between RVs, pin boxes, hitches, and leveling systems. Use the manuals for the equipment fitted to your fifth wheel.

Fifth-Wheel Transport FAQs

What pin-box photos should I send before booking?

Send clear photos showing the pin box from the side and underneath, along with visible identification labels. Include the connection area and any adapters or replacement components. Only take photos from a safe, accessible position; do not place yourself beneath unsupported equipment.

Can you transport a fifth wheel with an aftermarket pin box or hitch adapter?

Provide the manufacturer, model, labels, and photos of the fitted equipment. Compatibility needs to be reviewed before the move is accepted. An adapter or replacement pin box should not be assumed compatible with every towing arrangement.

Why does pin weight matter when arranging transport?

A fifth wheel places part of its loaded weight onto the truck through the hitch. That load must be considered along with truck, hitch, and trailer specifications. Share available weight information so Dustin can assess the request.

Should I provide the height including rooftop air conditioners?

Yes. Share the overall travel height, including rooftop equipment, when known. Explain whether the figure comes from manufacturer information or a measurement. Do not climb onto the RV or attempt an unsafe measurement to obtain it.

What landing-gear information should I provide before pickup?

Tell Dustin whether the landing gear operates normally and share its type or model if known. Mention warning messages, damaged components, or trouble raising or lowering it. This information helps plan connecting and disconnecting; necessary assessment or repairs should be arranged before pickup.

Can you transport a fifth-wheel toy hauler?

Send the model, dimensions, weight information, pin-box details, and a description of cargo in the garage area. Acceptance depends on loaded weight, cargo, condition, access, and equipment compatibility. A toy hauler’s model name alone does not confirm that it can be accepted.

Do skirting, decks, or permanent campsite additions need to be removed?

Anything that prevents access, departure preparation, or movement needs to be addressed before pickup. Send photos of campsite additions and explain how they are attached or positioned. Agree on what will be cleared and who is responsible for the work.

Can you position the fifth wheel so the entry door faces a particular direction?

Share your preferred orientation and photos or a layout of the site before delivery. Placement depends on access, maneuvering space, surface conditions, hookups, slide-out clearance, and campground rules. Discuss the preferred position before it is promised or finalized.
