Own a Camper Without Owning the Tow Vehicle

A camper can be a weekend retreat, a seasonal place to stay, or your full-time home. You don’t necessarily need to keep a suitable towing truck on hand to enjoy it.

Dustin can review your trailer’s specifications, condition, and locations to determine whether the move is a fit. Discuss the details directly with him before making arrangements.

Storage Pickup & Delivery

Let Dustin know when the trailer last moved and whether you know of any tire, brake, lighting, or other towing concerns. Arrange necessary maintenance before scheduled transport.

Home & Seasonal Delivery

What Dustin Needs to Know About Your Camper

Travel trailers vary in weight, dimensions, and towing requirements. A model name or photograph alone may not provide everything needed to confirm transport.

  • Year, Make & Model

Include the specific model designation if you have it.

  • Overall Length

Provide the full trailer length, including the tongue, when available.

  • Weight Information

Share manufacturer labels and available loaded-weight information.

  • Hitch Details

Send clear photos of the coupler and existing towing equipment.

  • Trailer Condition

Mention known tire, brake, lighting, axle, or structural concerns.

  • Locations & Dates

Include pickup, destination, preferred timing, and setup requests.

Photos of the labels, trailer tongue, tires, and overall camper can help start the review. Dustin will explain what additional details are needed.

More than the tow vehicle

A Travel Trailer Needs to Be Ready to Tow

The truck is only one part of a camper move. The trailer’s own equipment and condition matter, too.

Before scheduling, mention damaged or aging tires, lights that do not work, brake concerns, hitch damage, or problems retracting equipment.

Buying a used camper?

Ask about towing condition and maintenance history. A description of the interior does not establish that the trailer is ready for transport.

Discuss the information needed to assess the request. Necessary repairs or service should be addressed before the move is confirmed.

Pack Up Before Pickup Day

A camper used as a stationary living space may have belongings and equipment that need attention before departure.

Start inside. Secure loose items, close and latch storage areas, and prepare appliances and furnishings according to the owner’s manual.

  • Confirm who disconnects and stows campground hookups.
  • Arrange awning and slide-out preparation for travel.
  • Discuss retracting steps, stabilizers, and other equipment.
  • Clear campsite accessories from the departure path.
  • Provide keys, access, and any required authorization.

Need help with departure tasks? Tell Dustin in advance so that assistance can be discussed before the move.

Go RVing’s campground departure guide offers a general reference. Follow your camper’s owner’s manual for its specific equipment.

Help getting settled

Camper Delivery With Leveling & Setup Available

Delivery may be all you need. If you also want help getting ready for your stay, ask about setup when requesting your quote.

  • Site Positioning
  • Trailer Leveling
  • Stabilization
  • Utility Connections

Provide the campsite details and explain the work you want included. Available hookups, site conditions, and trailer equipment affect what can be completed.

Agreeing on the scope beforehand helps distinguish transport from additional setup assistance.

Camper Hauling FAQs

Is a travel trailer the same as a fifth wheel?

They use different towing connections. A conventional travel trailer connects to a hitch behind the tow vehicle, while a fifth wheel connects to a hitch in the truck bed. If you have a fifth wheel, visit our fifth-wheel transport page.

Does my camper need to be empty for transport?

Discuss the contents and loaded weight with Dustin before booking. The amount and placement of belongings can affect the transport assessment. Secure anything remaining inside according to the manufacturer’s instructions and the agreed preparation plan.

What if I don’t know the hitch-ball size?

Send a clear photo of the coupler and any markings on it, along with the trailer’s model details. Dustin will confirm what information and compatible equipment are needed before accepting the move.

Should I remove my weight-distribution hitch or sway-control equipment?

Do not assume existing equipment will be used or removed. Send photos and discuss it with Dustin first. The towing arrangement needs to be reviewed for compatibility with the trailer and tow vehicle.

Can you move a camper with slide-outs?

Tell Dustin the model and whether its slide-outs can be fully retracted and secured for travel. If a slide-out is stuck or damaged, disclose that before scheduling so the transport request can be assessed.

Should the fresh, gray, and black water tanks be emptied before hauling?

Tell Dustin what is in the tanks when discussing loaded weight and preparation. Follow your manufacturer’s travel guidance and agree on the tank condition expected for pickup. If emptying is needed, arrange access to an appropriate dump station before transport.

Can bicycles, generators, or cargo stay on an exterior camper rack?

Send photos and describe the rack, attachment method, and items carried. Exterior cargo can affect weight, dimensions, and clearance. Dustin will discuss whether items need to be removed before the move; follow the rack and RV manufacturers’ limits and instructions.

What should I do about a camper battery or electric tongue jack that isn’t working?

Report the issue before scheduling. These problems may affect hitching, departure preparation, or trailer systems. Dustin can discuss what needs to be checked or corrected before pickup. Arrange necessary service rather than assuming a repair can be completed during the move.
